A "5-year" coating applied by a professional detailer using proper prep (full decontamination, paint correction, IPA wipe-down) can absolutely last 5 years in Melbourne — sometimes longer. The same "5-year" product applied as a quick spray-and-wipe with no proper surface prep will delaminate in 12–18 months. The label is a ceiling, not a guarantee.

Is There a 7-Year Ceramic Coating?

Yes. Our Ultimate package uses 3 layers of professional ceramic, rated to 7 years under normal Australian conditions. For a garaged prestige vehicle with proper aftercare, 7+ years is realistic. For a daily driver parked on the street, expect 5–7 years from the Ultimate package.

How Often Should Ceramic Coating Be Applied?

For a professional coating correctly applied, you shouldn't need to reapply for the rated duration. A Shelby Premium coating (5yr) should not need reapplication for 5 years with proper maintenance. If you notice water no longer beading properly before the rated period, it typically means either the coating was improperly applied or it's been subjected to harsh automated car washes or chemical contamination.

After the coating's useful life, we offer a maintenance coat — often applied without full paint correction — which extends protection for another 2–3 years at significantly lower cost than a full reco.
